Orange Farming Thrives In The Desert
Juicy and sweet mandarin orange is the favorite orange variety of the farm visitors.

Orange Farm Desert Mountains and Parks—It's surprising that an orange farm thrives in a region with scorching summer heat, producing tropical oranges in the open desert. Yet, it exists. Al Maamourah Orange Farm in Riyadh Province is known for its sweet, high-quality oranges. Visitors can enjoy firsthand farming and harvesting experiences there. Another farm is located in Al Hariq, though the author has not visited it yet.

Before the author discovered and showcased the farm on his YouTube channel and Facebook page, most people in Riyadh were unaware of its existence. The visit had beneficial results. The author proposed and persuaded the owner to allow public access to the farm for a fruit-picking experience. The owners considered this suggestion and decided to open the farm to visitors during harvest.

Visitors frequent the farm to pick oranges, particularly on Fridays and Saturdays. The farm's opening showcased the farm itself and unveiled its hidden natural beauty. Previously, this location was seen as remote, distant, and demanding to reach. However, due to the enthusiasm for the farm activities, Hafirat Nisah is now perceived as being close to Redsand.

In addition to picking oranges, visitors can enjoy a picnic on the farm. Many arrive with picnic gear, ready for outdoor bonding with family, friends, and colleagues.

Guests must pay an entrance fee of SR35.00 per person, allowing them to pick and take home up to 6 kilos of either a single type or a mix of different orange fruits.

Visiting the farm allows you to purchase fruit and experience the picking process yourself, with the added benefit of choosing the highest-quality fruits.

Al Maamourah Orange Farm employs semi-organic farming methods. Orange picking is available only once annually during the harvest, as they avoid using chemical inducers to stimulate fruit production outside of the natural season.

The harvest season lasts from the final week of December until early April.

Available orange varieties:

1.       Mandarin

2.       Valencia

3.       Grapefruit
